Come join me by the pool for an umbrella drink!

No, not now, because I have no pool, and no little paper umbrellas, and even if I had a pool and paper umbrellas, there’s snow on the ground here in my little corner of the world, and it’s below freezing, and we’d get frostbite if we tried to hang out around that mythical pool.

But HEY! In late January of 2008, I’ll be spending a week someplace that has 4 pools, and sunshine instead of snow, and LOTS of umbrella drinks (and nice, smiling people who bring them to you on a tray when you wave your hand and look the least bit thirsty). And if you want to, you can be there too!

J and I have booked a 7-night southern Caribbean cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas, which is one of their huge, Voyager-class ships…basically a floating resort. Besides the usual cruise-type stuff, like pools and spas, live shows and a casino, this ship has a rock climbing wall, miniature golf, an ice skating rink (that one kind of blows my mind), lots of shops and different places to eat, or have a drink, or go dancing, or there are quiet nooks like the library, card room, or internet lounge if you like to do quieter things. (—deep breath—) And that’s just a small sampling of the stuff to do while you’re onboard! The ports will include Puerto Rico, Aruba, Curacao, St. Maarten, and St. Thomas. Bound to be some adventures to be had there, yes? Yes!

I’ve been working with Patricia to plan this trip. She’s a regular RSR reader and a travel agent specializing in cruises (yay!), and she and her husband are going too. So if nothing else, there will be four of us having a hell of a good time in the Caribbean about a year from now! :-) But I hope some of YOU will decide to go too!

I know some of you are sitting there thinking you can’t afford it, and maybe some of you can’t, but I bet more of you can than might realize it. If you book an interior stateroom (which is what J and I always do!), then your cruise fare would be just under $100 per day, per person. That’s pretty reasonable for a days worth of lodging, activities, and more food than you can eat! And of course, if you want to spend more to get a larger or fancier room, you can.

Plus, as an added incentive, for anyone who decides to reserve their cabin before March 15, 2007 (my birthday! ;-)), Patricia and I will each throw in a little gift. I’ll give early birds either a matted 5″ x 7″ color print of one of my DATs or a fabric postcard (cruiser’s choice!), and Patricia will arrange for early bookers to have a free Specialty Restaurant Experience on ship. You only need to make a $500 deposit per cabin and then you have until November of this year before the final payment is due.

If this all sounds interesting, and you want to hear more, here’s a site where you can see the details of the cruise - info about the ports of call, deck plans of the ship, drawings of the various types of rooms, and what it costs per person to book one for the week. Also if you go here, and look at the top where it says “photos” then scroll down to the photos for Royal Caribbean, you can click on an album called “Explorer of the Seas” and get a real feel for what the ship will look like, as Explorer is a sister ship of Adventure and has pretty much the same layout and amenities.

You can also find contact info for Patricia (both an email address and a toll free phone number) on both sites. She’s working on getting a website set up for us specifically for this cruise - both an online registration site and a blog where we can chat about things if we want - but it may be a little while before that’s done, and if you want to either ask questions or book the trip (yes! Book it!! Book it now!! :-D) before the website is up and running, all you need to do is call Patricia and tell her you want to book a cruise as part of Deb’s Blogland Cruise group (or Patricia’s favorite alternate name for it - the “Let’s Crash Deb’s Vacation” group! Ha!) and she will be happy to help you. (Plus I can tell you from personal experience that she’s fun to talk to on the phone, and y’all know I don’t even like talking on the phone much!)

If you want to ask me any questions feel free, but be aware I’m STILL having server problems (dammit) causing me to have a very intermittent connection, and unfortunately it may be several days before it’s any better, so I’ll answer any comment or email questions as quickly as I can, but I’m not sure how quickly that will be. Don’t expect to see much of me on your blogs the next few days either, for the same reason. Even when I can pull them up, I can rarely stay connected long enough to comment!

(The folks who provide my ‘net service know what the problem is, but fixing the problem involves someone climbing up a tall outdoor metal ladder to the top of a tower that’s several stories high, and changing a transmitter. Did I mention the part about how we’ve had snow and ice lately and it’s below freezing now? Well, for some strange reason the tech guys want to wait until the ice melts off the ladder before any of them climb up there to fix my internet. Go figure!)

Anyway…I really hope I get to meet some of you by the pool next year! Or at dinner, or breakfast, or in the Promenade, or at a show, or…well, you get the idea. :-)

Over at CaC this week, the theme for Photo Thursday is “Laughter” so I’m posting a photo from the last cruise I went on.

pub crawl laughter

This is when J and I, along with my sister, BIL, and my BIL’s parents went on a pub crawl in Key West. There was lots of laughter going on that night and this photo always makes me smile!

And for today’s DAT, here’s a messed-with version of another photo I took on that cruise, of a huge hanging sculpture on the ship:

Well yes, that’s a very reasonable fare (even if I have to remind myself to convert it to New Zealand dollars). Can you arrange for it to depart from Christchurch, New Zealand so that I don’t need an extra two to three thousand for air fares? No? Oh, well…

Love the color swirl. I’m just off to look at the original

I love talking to you too — though I have no idea why getting back your internet isn’t top priority and worth risking the icy ladder — boggles my mind.

    Looking forward to drinks!!

Maybe I can make that cruise - let me check out the resources and see what I can come up with….but even if I can’t - hope it turns out wonderful either way.

Love the DAT - I like it better than the original photo.

Fun picture!! Looks like a blast!! I wonder if I can talk my boss into the fact that this is a necessary trip! I write a blog for work too… maybe it fits as a business blog trip!! ;)

I like yours better and I have no idea how you could do something like that. I am totally photographically and technologically challenged.

Love the PS job you did on that photo… amazing! Have you ever seen this http://molecularexpressions.com/site? Especially check out the “vitamin” and the “beer” galleries. Your image reminds me of some of them.

Love your laughter picture and your daily art thing ROCKS!
