O (Magazine) and Sympathy

Remember my friend Brenda, who just had a birthday last Sunday? Her father died Thursday morning and the memorial service is today. It wasn’t entirely unexpected, as he’d been in bad health for a while and had taken a turn for the worse about a month ago, but still…even when you know it’s coming it’s very hard to lose someone you love. Bren, you and your family are in my thoughts~~~
One day last week Janet posted a link to a quiz on the O magazine site. It was one of those “what’s your personality type?” things and I have an unholy fascination with those, so of course I had to take it. Here are my scores:
Explorer: 19
Builder: 18
Negotiator: 22
Director: 17
If you want to read descriptions of all four types, you can go Here and use the arrows at the top of the article to go from one page to the next. Here’s one paragraph from the longer article about the Negotiator type:
“Not only do Negotiators connect psychologically, they also have the ability to remain mentally flexible. When they make decisions, they weigh many variables and consider various ways to proceed; they see things contextually, rather than linearly—I call it web thinking. As a result, they tend to be comfortable with ambiguity. Negotiators can be highly intuitive and creative. And they like to theorize. Perhaps their most distinctive characteristic is verbal fluency, the facility for finding the right words rapidly. With this skill—alongside an agreeable and accommodating nature, compassion, social savvy, and patience—the Negotiator can be very friendly, diplomatic, and authentic.”
I found that very interesting because some of you may remember that recently, in this post, I described myself as a “long courtship, short engagement” person when it comes to decision-making, which is exactly the same thing the author is talking about above and calling “web thinking.” Fascinating! (Well, to me anyway. Another part of the Negotiator description is “introspective and self-analytical.” Heh.)
If you want to take the test yourself rather than just reading about the various types, go Here and answer a few questions. If you do, I hope you’ll leave a comment and tell me so. I’d love to hear about your results!

Pretty middling. I think I would have been more strongly an
explorer before my t-cells went south for early retirement. That makes me tired all the time and travel is difficult now.

Very tightly packed among three with Explorer lagging behind. I could see a lot of what they described in me, but there were some points in each of the top three that definitely didn’t seem to fit. It’s always fun to take these little quizzes; while it’s fun to see if you think they “get” you, it’s also inspiring to consider some things you may be missing out on because of your natural tendencies and try to loosen up a little to gain more in your life.
Thanks for sharing!

It was quite interesting to read the descriptions, including the negatives. I think I recognize similar situations having occurred and afterwards feeling badly that I had backed myself into a corner and perhaps behaved in just that way.
i did it - it’s on my blog. it was fun!
and my thoughts are being sent to bren.
Oh WOW! That DAT is kinda amazing!
I am also Negotiator(26), and I tied 2nd with Explorer and Director, with builder just a point behind. huh.

Pretty contradictory… albeit right on the money. LOL
I had to go try the test…I’m a Negotiator (25)/ Builder (19)
Damn, I really thought I’d been doing better at keeping up with comments this week, but not so much, huh! Oopsie.
Anyway, in case someone checks back after so many days, I wanted to say thank you to all of you who posted your scores here or on your own blog. It was fun to see who got what! (LOT of Negotiating going on around here…hehehe.)
