Carnivale Mystere

At the end of last week, I got a wonderful bit of Good Mail - the Carnivale Mystere Tarot Deck, a collaborative project I participated in with the Traveler’s H’Art group.

I usually do 2 or 3 swaps a year with this group, and I’m always so pleased with the artwork I get in return. You might remember I posted a photo of my contribution to the deck here on RSR a couple of months ago.

A lot of the swaps this group does are for art card sets that have a theme, but aren’t structured around suits. But now and then, Red (the group leader) takes on the daunting task of organizing a suited deck (in this case a Tarot deck) around a particular theme. In fact, the very first project I ever did with this group was a Tarot deck - the Characters in Literature Tarot (still one of my all-time favorites!) - when I stepped in as a last-minute replacement for someone who couldn’t complete their assigned card.

This time around, the theme was Carnivale Mystere and I’m thrilled with the job the various artists did on this deck. There’s such a great variety of artistic styles and theme interpretations!

Here are some photos of just a few of the wonderful cards from the deck, from both the Major and Minor Arcana. All photos are clickable if you want to see them slightly larger in a new window, and you can click on each artist’s name to go to that person’s blog or website if they have one. All images are copyrighted by the artist and are used with permission.

If you’d like to see even more images from this deck, or to read more about the group as a whole, check out the website. (BTW, because people always seem to ask when I talk about these projects, these decks are not available for sale. The only way to get one is to get out your art supplies and participate in on one of the group’s swaps! :-) )

Here’s today’s Daily Art Thang (like we need more art in this post! ha!), which is another shot I took during the same photo session as yesterday’s self-portrait. I had trouble deciding which one to use, so I’m posting the first runner up today.

What if you laid on your back and held up a pumpkin with your feet?

Nice post, Deb. I love how you remind us of the history around Red’s decks.

Janet, sweetie, if you think I could do that without ending up with a pumpkin smashing down on my face, you severely overestimate my level of coordination. ;-)

Thanks, Sarah! And thanks again for letting me show your wonderful card.

Thanks, Dar. Yep, it really was a good swap. And I figured I might as well get in another shot of green before fall and winter swallows it up. ;-)

These are all so fantastic. Deirdre was blown away by them as well. Wish I’d had the time to participate in this one. Ah well, next swap.
