So this is March, huh?

MarkToday is my brother’s birthday. Happy Birthday, Mark!! I wish I could see you!!!

That is the main reason I’ve been so frustrated with the weather this weekend. Not that I would have loved it anyway, since I make no secret of the fact that I am so not a snowbunny! But it was one of those “adding insult to injury” situations that we got all that crappy weather this weekend, because my family was going to do a big ol’ birthday get-together and we had to cancel it. :-(

Mark at beachMy brother, Dad, and I all have birthdays this month (as did my mom), and Mark’s girlfriend (hi, Melissa!) had pulled off the near-impossible, given our various schedules and scattered locales, and had arranged for a dozen family-and-friends to get together someplace yesterday and do something. (I’m still being vague because we’re trying to reschedule and, although Mark knew we were getting together, the specifics of what we were doing were supposed to be a surprise!)

I’d been looking forward to it for weeks and instead I was stuck inside, watching it snow, and snow, and snow. Sigh…

Me in the snowI drowned my sorrows by baking cookies, going for a walk to snap some photos, and curling up in front of a fire with a book. It was a lovely day at home (truly!) but still…Still!!!…So disappointing to miss out on something I’d wanted to do so much.

Dear Weather Systems of the World,

Thanks a LOT, ya big jerks!! You couldn’t have done this a week or two ago and gotten it over with? You had to dump this crap on us THIS weekend? Rude. Rude, rude, rude! Your mama didn’t raise you right.

Yours in frustrated disgust,

A couple of people had asked how much snow we got, but I’m not really sure because the wind was blowing so hard that it sometimes looked like it was coming down sideways, so there was a lot of drifting. Some places the ground looked almost bare, and in others the snow looked deep. My guess is that we probably got around 6 inches or so, with a small layer of ice under that from when the “crunchy stuff” was falling on Friday. (The town where I’d hoped to be meeting up with the Fam got quite a bit more snow than that - at least a foot. They were under a level 3 snow emergency yesterday!)

J and I are going to try going out in the 4WD truck in a little while to see how our driveway (which is more of a farm lane, really - about a half-mile long and hilly) and the roads are, to see if I’m going to be able to get to work tomorrow. Wish us luck!

Here’s today’s Daily Art Thang, a glimpse of one of the views of our driveway when we were out walking yesterday afternoon.

Not much more to say other than - BUGGER!!!

Sorry to hear the weather didn’t co-operate with your plans. It sounded like such a fun get together. Hope your rescheduled plans work out.

    Happy Birthday to Mark!

When I saw that you all were getting buried under snow I knew you would not be happy.

What a bummer! Snow has never been one of my favorite things….pretty but not fun to drive in or when there’s too much of it. I guess you don’t want to know that it was sunny and in the 70’s here today! Go ahead….you can take a swing at me! I deserve it for telling you that….and you can see the pictures on my photo blog!! Ok, I’m through punishing you!!

I really am sorry you’re having so much bad weather. I hope it clears up soon and you get to celebrate with your family.
