Ch-ch-changes

Hi. Miss me? :-)

I didn’t mean to worry anyone and I apologize if I did. Last weekend (not this past weekend, but the first weekend of the month) I went out of town and literally ran out of time to update ye olde blogge before I went, but fully intended to post something as soon as I got back. But on the trip I got to thinking and by the time I was back I decided I needed a little more thinking time before I started to post again, hence the week+ of silence.

My thoughts were that I’ve been feeling overwhelmed by Real Life lately and having a self-imposed obligation to blog every day has recently been feeling like one big, ponderous brick in a too-heavy load. I’ve been having trouble finding joy in it lately. If I’m going to continue blogging, I need to find a way to get the joy of it back again. Otherwise, what’s the point?

I gave serious thought to giving up blogging altogether, but found I don’t want to do that. I think I’d miss sharing bits of my life. I know I’d miss hearing from those of you who comment or email me.

So I’m making changes. My blog, my rules.

I’m going to try to get back to my blogging roots. There are maybe a handful of you who have been with me since the beginning and maybe you’ll remember that I always posted frequently, but in the beginning it wasn’t every day and there wasn’t always an accompanying photo. Starting today, that’s going to be the new (old? whatever!) deal here at RSR.

***I hereby release myself from the obligation to post every single day, whether I truly feel like I have anything to share or not.

***I hereby release myself from the obligation to post a photo a day, whether I feel like I have a good one or not.

***I will post when I have something I really want to say. That may be every day some weeks or only 2 - 3 times a week other weeks. It depends on Real Life.

***I will post photos frequently, sometimes more than one at a time, but not necessarily every day or with every post. The Daily Art Thang is no more. Now it’s just the Art Thang. Or maybe it’s just the Thang. ;-)

***I will blog when there is something I really want to share and the thought of sharing it with others feels better than keeping it to myself, because I think when a person blogs from a place of desire, that shows. When they blog from a place of obligation, that shows too. I want to be the first sort of person, not the second.

That’s it. No pretty pictures today. No quizzes or memes (although don’t think you’ve seen the last of those. I genuinely LIKE quizzes and memes! LOL!). Just a statement of ch-ch-changes. I hope you’ll stick around to see what happens.

hear, hear!!! Blogging SHOULD be fun, not an obligation! Enjoy :-)

Keep on doing what feels right to you. I’ll be looking forward to whatever you write as well as the Thang.
The daily writing got to me too. I just don’t have that much interesting going on. Most of the day is just stuff that no one but me could possibly care about and I felt myself doing that “staring at the blank page” thing. When that happens it’s time to take a step back.
Hope all your problems are small ones.

I agree - and I’m proud of you for doing what is right for you.

Currently, I enjoy blogging everyday…but, like you, when I cease to enjoy it…I won’t post every day…

I’ll be here when you post…cause I love what you have to say…

You rock, Deb. I always applaud when people reinvent themselves in ways small and large. And that’s just what you did. Hear me applauding?

The irony, I didn’t even know you tried to blog every single day. UGH. What a chore. As you probably can tell, I blog whenever I feel like it - which sometimes is like WAYYYYY too much for folks to keep up on and other times, like this last week, a combination of “just not feeling like it” and busy real life has kept me from making the effort. I’m feeling like putting something up soon, but the “wise thoughts” or “witty funnies” I might share keep slipping in and out of my memory file. Plus I don’t feel like dealing with my camera right now. I’m trying to actually work in my studio - GASP.

But, since I often check into blogs every few days or every few weeks (or in some cases, every few months), it’s not like I need to see a post for every day. I just like to see something, ‘cuz I miss folks when they stay away too long.

Do you know about the B.W.O. button you can add to your blog. B.W.O. stands for Blogging Without Obligation. Google it, I think you need to add it to your sidebar. I’ve been meaning to add on to my blogs for about a year now. Just goes to show you how on top of things I am.

Good for you, Deb! I haven’t blogged since I moved in May….just too much to do getting my nest together and trying to see where I fit in this place. I sometimes feel like I want to get back to it, but the truth is I don’t want it to be a “sposed to” kinda thing and my ability to connect on the Wi-Fi here is iffy at best.

I will read you when I can access the net and get caught up on your doin’s…I love reading your blog and I know I’ll continue to.

Til then, have fun in your real life!

Yay you! I felt that way after dropping out of a group that had a regular commitment and I haven’t looked back since. Don’t you dare give up blogging though - my world is certainly a better place because of it.

Hey babe, I aim for 3 times a week but live with twice if need be ( I’m talking blogging here, smutmind!) and I feel a bit bad that I haven’t been visiting all my blogroll lately…but not TOO bad. Go with the flow, I say. There is a life outside the blog!

I TOTALLLLY get this, Deb. It is crazy to try and blog everyday– I didn’t know how you could do it. I can’t. I just can’t! And I can’t read all my friends everyday, either. I just can’t.

We have to do it so that it continues to be fun, and not a chore. Why would we volunteer for a chore, anyway??

    :)

I always marvelled at your ability to post every day. There’s no way I could do that. Hell, I can barely post once a week! So I definitely understand. See you when we see you!

More power to you! I’ve always been amazed at your daily postings. I don’t think there’s one voluntary thing I do every single day (mmm…eat?).

So now when we do see a post from you, it will be because you WANT to be here, and to share. That sounds good to me!

    Deb,
I am glad you freed yourself to blog when you want to. I wondered how one person could be so disciplined and be having fun at the same time.
I like to visit so when you are in the mood, enjoy the groove!

Hooray for you Deb, I think you’ve got the right attitude towards the obligation to blog. Way to balance!

Yes, yes, yes :) I have lost a lot of my readers and regular commenters over the past year and a half, and miss having that regular record of my life that I had with more frequent blogging, but I can honestly say that I love blogging now more than ever. I enjoy your writing and your photos and will continue to enjoy them however frequently or infrequently you post.
