Dog Days of August

Isn’t that what they call it when it’s too hot to breathe? Too hot to move. Too hot to think! Bleah. This was the temperature at 7:00 last night on the shady side of our house:

nearly 100 in the shade

And let’s not even discuss the humidity that makes it like trying to breathe bath water when we walk outside. Gaaahhh!

Bears hibernate in the winter. I want to hibernate through August! I look back and don’t understand how J and I survived this kind of heat when we were growing up and neither of our families had air conditioning at home.

My sunflowers seem to like it though.

sunflowers

(The “lovely” white string all around was our mostly-successful attempt to keep the herds of marauding deer that come through here from eating the tops of the plants off before they could set buds.)

And on the plus side, there’s another sort of Dog Days - the Cute Puppy Days of August! It’s been a week or two since I inflicted any gratuitous puppy shots on you, so….

pretty eyes

Aaaaawwwww….look at those eyes.

Ranger and Red Shoes

He likes red shoes.

mmmm...shoes

Ok, he pretty much likes any shoes - the taste of them, that is.

aaawwww

And he likes his person. She likes him too.

Here’s today’s DAT:

Aww, little Ranger is getting bigger. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a dog with green eyes before.

I hear ya on the heat and humidity. New Mexico was hot during the day, but the evenings were heavenly - it cooled off very nicely with no humidity. Around here it stays warm and muggy all night. Yuck.

People have had more problems than usual here with deer this spring/summer. I’m glad you found a deterrent.

Your puppy has grown! He’s such a cutie.

I like your “today I am” icon today. :)

Awwwww, the puppy is so adorable (and so are those shoes!! I love those!).

This heat is unbearable. And you know they should replace that cell phone death march commercial with one for the electric company through the summer months. Yeesh. It’s like Mother Nature is having early-onset menopause.

I went outside yesterday and the air was so heavy, I felt like I was trying to walk through invisible HOT gelatin. Yuck.

Stay cool and enjoy some puppy breath for me! :)

I wandered here from a friend’s list of links and am glad I did even though the puppy cuteness is about doing me in. Those eyes, those expressions!

All I’ve done is complain about the disgusting weather today. Sorry you’re in the same mess. The darling puppy is really growing fast. Love the red shoes! No one is blogging but you and I (and maybe 3 others)and I don’t have any cute puppy pics-you win!

Oh my GAW he is getting even cuter if that’s possible!!

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I’m done with this heat. They only fixed our a/c on Monday. I just don’t do heat. The older I get - the less I can tolerate heat.

Who are all these weird numbers showing up on my cell phone?? It’s starting to fweak my out!

how cute is he!! i’ve stayed in the house for the past 2 days (no exageration) because the humidity is cloying and oppressive and exhausting. i’m so glad to be flying west on saturday - even if it’s hot in cali, it’s dry.

That puppy’s looking more and more like you every day!

You know…I think you took a picture of that temp gauge the same time last year, and I posted one right after yours…I think…but I could (very well be) wrong!

I tried on those flips…didn’t like ‘em!

Lovely photos. Did you know it’s not hibernation if you do it in August? It’s “estivation” (from the Latin for summer)
