Friday Fill-In #91

Again I’ve gone all week without posting anything. Ack! I really didn’t intend to go quite THIS far the other direction when I said I was going to stop posting daily!!! At some point maybe I’ll find the time and energy to do a Catch Up On Deb’s Life post….but not today. ;-)

Friday Fill-InMy answers are, as always, in bold.

1. Cool, crisp evenings that follow warm sunny days, beautiful foliage colors (I hope!!), and seeing how everyone decorates and dresses up for Halloween are some of the things I’m most looking forward to in October.

2. Sometimes I feel like a nut, sometimes I…, no, can’t finish that the way I meant to. I pretty much always feel like a nut, although the variety of nut may vary from time to time. Today I was a bit Black Walnutty.

3. The Universe has a wicked sense of humor and like to say (metaphorically speaking) “oh really???” to puny humans who think they can control everything and that’s why there is a saying, “never say never”!

4. When I’m down, I might as well look to see if anything interesting has rolled under the couch lately. You never know.

5. These days, work is where you’ll find me most often.

6. A rainy day is good for curling up with a cup of tea and a good book or old movie. (Merciful Zeus, that sounds nice. A day without the computer, or the phone, or laundry, or bills, or anyone speaking to me at all. I could soooooooo use a day like that. Gaaaaahhh!)

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to sleeeeeeep, tomorrow my plans include sleeeeeeping and Sunday, I want to take a nap!

This isn’t really a Thang, but I thought I’d show you a photo of our downtown area when they blocked off the street for a dance last weekend. This photo was when the food vendors were setting up and the people in the table decorating contest were doing their thang.

Know & Tell (not quite) Friday: The Famous Edition

Know & TellI hadn’t played K & T the past couple of weeks because the questions just weren’t relevant to me, but I thought this week’s edition - hosted by Kayren - was fun, so I’m playing along.

1. If you could meet one famous actor, who would it be and why?

George Clooney, because he grew up just about 30 miles from here and still has family in the area and I think it would be fun to talk to a local boy made famous and see what it was like going from a Kentucky farm to Hollywood. Plus, not so hard on the eyes during the conversation, yes? :-)

2. What one question would you ask him?

I’d ask him if his dad had any plans to try again to get into local/state politics. I voted for him (George’s dad, Nick) a few years ago when he ran for office and was disappointed when he didn’t win - not because he’s George’s dad, but because I sincerely think he would have done a good job. I knew of Nick long before George became famous from growing up watching him anchor the local news. Also, if I’d get a bonus question, I’d just have to ask, why a pot-bellied pig for a pet??

3. If you could meet one famous actress, who would it be and why?

Ashley Judd, for the same reason, although her home town is a bit further away from me - more like 60 miles or so. But still, she’s a Kentucky girl and I’d like to hear her thoughts on that transition.

4. What one question would you ask her?

I’d ask her what it was about acting that pulled her in that direction instead of getting into music like her mother and sister.

5. What is your all-time favorite comedy movie and why?

I don’t really have a single all-time favorite movie in any category. I looooove movies and have many, many favorites, the order of which could shift daily depending on my mood. One of my favorites is A Fish Called Wanda because I love that style of ensemble humor and the quirkiness of it.
6. What is your favorite all-time tv show and why?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, because Joss Whedon is a god and that show (like all his shows!) was simply brilliant - sad, funny, quirky, smart, complicated, and ever-changing.

7. What is your all-time favorite action or drama movie and why?

Again, no true favorite, but I’ll choose one from among many - Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Raiders of the Lost Ark. (Oops - thanks, Julie! That’s what I get for writing before coffee. LOL!) The first Indy movie is still my fave of the series and really, what’s not to like? Harrison Ford in his prime, great action sequences, a little romance, some villains to vanquish - good stuff!

Friday Fill-In #90

Friday Fill-InThank you for the comments to my last post. I appreciate them more than you can know.

I’d really hoped and intended to post at least once more between then and now, but this week has been insane. And not in a good way. So here we are on Friday and I had the urge to do a Friday Fill-In. So I’m gonna. :-)

My answers are in bold.

1. There is no need to take that tone of voice with me! (Sorry, I was channeling someone there, not sure who!)

2. Where in the heck did the summer go.

3. All I managed to do is all I managed to do. (It’s a very Zen thing. Go with me on this one, ‘k? Heh.)

4. Prospects for a relaxing weekend are iffy.

5. Grease is the message. Oh, no wait. Grease is the word. I’m not sure what the message is. Is there a machine I can check? Maybe I can Google it. I’ll get back to you on the message thing.

6. Simplicity and tranquility are something I vaguely remember experiencing from time to time.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to blessed, glorious sleep, tomorrow my plans include going to a street dance and Sunday, I want to relax and do something utterly mindless and decadent!

It feels soooooooo weird to not end with a DAT, but I’m deliberately avoiding posting a Thang for a few posts to retrain my brain that it’s ok to post without a photo. (It is? No, it isn’t! Yes, it is! Shut up! You shut up!….See, I’m still very conflicted about that issue.)  Sometimes soon I’ll share a photo or two or three though, pinky swear.  Hope you all have a great weekend!

Hi. Miss me? :-)

I didn’t mean to worry anyone and I apologize if I did. Last weekend (not this past weekend, but the first weekend of the month) I went out of town and literally ran out of time to update ye olde blogge before I went, but fully intended to post something as soon as I got back. But on the trip I got to thinking and by the time I was back I decided I needed a little more thinking time before I started to post again, hence the week+ of silence.

My thoughts were that I’ve been feeling overwhelmed by Real Life lately and having a self-imposed obligation to blog every day has recently been feeling like one big, ponderous brick in a too-heavy load. I’ve been having trouble finding joy in it lately. If I’m going to continue blogging, I need to find a way to get the joy of it back again. Otherwise, what’s the point?

I gave serious thought to giving up blogging altogether, but found I don’t want to do that. I think I’d miss sharing bits of my life. I know I’d miss hearing from those of you who comment or email me.

So I’m making changes. My blog, my rules.

I’m going to try to get back to my blogging roots. There are maybe a handful of you who have been with me since the beginning and maybe you’ll remember that I always posted frequently, but in the beginning it wasn’t every day and there wasn’t always an accompanying photo. Starting today, that’s going to be the new (old? whatever!) deal here at RSR.

***I hereby release myself from the obligation to post every single day, whether I truly feel like I have anything to share or not.

***I hereby release myself from the obligation to post a photo a day, whether I feel like I have a good one or not.

***I will post when I have something I really want to say. That may be every day some weeks or only 2 - 3 times a week other weeks. It depends on Real Life.

***I will post photos frequently, sometimes more than one at a time, but not necessarily every day or with every post. The Daily Art Thang is no more. Now it’s just the Art Thang. Or maybe it’s just the Thang. ;-)

***I will blog when there is something I really want to share and the thought of sharing it with others feels better than keeping it to myself, because I think when a person blogs from a place of desire, that shows. When they blog from a place of obligation, that shows too. I want to be the first sort of person, not the second.

That’s it. No pretty pictures today. No quizzes or memes (although don’t think you’ve seen the last of those. I genuinely LIKE quizzes and memes! LOL!). Just a statement of ch-ch-changes. I hope you’ll stick around to see what happens.

I’m ok…

…Sorry, didn’t mean to worry anyone.
Will be back by the weekend.

I miss….

…my mom.

…my sanity. (Sometimes!)

…cheap gas.

…perky boobs.

…friends and family I don’t see or talk to often enough.

…So You Think You Can Dance.

…having a metabolism that would allow me to eat whatever I wanted to.

…summer…and it’s not even really over yet. But every year when Labor Day is past, I feel winter trying to creep up behind me to nip at my heels, and I start to miss summer.

Here’s today’s Daily Art Thang.
